Dock World: Maritime Scenography at Walibi Belgium
Inaugurated for the park's 50th anniversary, the Dock World zone at Walibi Belgium highlights a comprehensive approach to theme park scenography and themed entertainment design. The main objective was to transform an existing sector into an immersive maritime and industrial environment where every building and view serves the guest journey.
The architectural landscape draws inspiration from Atlantic fishing ports, combining weathered wood, corrugated metal, and patinated brick. The 15-meter-high Port de Wavre lighthouse acts as a major visual anchor. To unify the land, the central Cannery Factory hall groups retail and dining options, such as the Hungry Sharky restaurant, under a single aesthetic. By optimizing guest flow management, the layout offers a natural transition from the bustling harbor square to the waterfront terraces.
The main technical challenge was integrating the Mecalodon family coaster. To enhance strategic sightlines, the 925-meter-long track was designed to glide at water level and brush past harbor structures, creating a dynamic spectacle for bystanders. Developed alongside the Compagnie des Alpes teams from Blue-Skyconcepts to on-site art direction, this zone balances industrial constraints into a sustainable, immersive space.
