MAHUKA - EXOTIC ISLAND
WALIBI RHÔNE-ALPES - FRANCE
Skills: Art direction - Storytelling - Design and Concept Art
For Mahuka, the challenge was to transform a compact Intamin coaster into an immersive adventure, despite a limited scenography budget. This required a clever approach, placing the architecture at the very heart of the experience.
The entire scenography relies on the visual impact of a main temple literally split in two. This rupture creates a spectacular rocky chasm that the track cuts right through. This strong aesthetic choice maximized the element of surprise and low-to-the-ground speed without multiplying costly structures. By using the 18.5-meter Top Hat as a natural entrance arch, the ride's technical structure itself became a major design element.
The archaeological escape storyline guided every budget-conscious decision. Rock textures and the queue line layout were optimized to concentrate details exactly where the visitors' eyes land.
This design work demanded millimeter-precise coordination on-site. The goal was to seamlessly marry this clever staging with the manufacturer’s strict safety constraints, proving that a powerful visual identity does not always rely on an unlimited budget.
