CREATIVE SESSION 2: MOODBOARD

How to Create an Effective Moodboard: Method, Tools, and the Role of AI
How can you give visual form to an idea that is still abstract? That is precisely what a moodboard does. It brings together images, colours, typography, textures, objects, and keywords to express a mood or creative direction. In design, fashion, scenography, graphic design, and film, it supports both exploration and the communication of a creative vision.
Everything starts with a clear objective: what project, theme, or challenge do you want to explore? Next comes the research phase. Photographs, paintings, fabrics, quotations, and objects can all enrich the chosen visual world.
The key is not to limit yourself to obvious references, the most unexpected connections are often the most inspiring.
The next step is curation.
Grouping elements by colour, shape, theme, or atmosphere helps reveal a coherent direction. Finally, assemble the moodboard on paper or digitally, paying as much attention to hierarchy, readability, and composition as to the content itself.
As for tools,
Milanote makes it easy to combine text and visuals,
Pinterest simplifies image collection,
PureRef provides a flexible canvas
Canva offers ready-to-use templates.
Artificial intelligence also opens up new possibilities. DALL·E, Midjourney, and Adobe Firefly can turn a few words into original visual directions. However, beware of visual uniformity, reduced critical thinking, and intellectual property issues. The best approach? Use AI as a research partner, never as a substitute for human creativity.
A good moodboard does not merely decorate an idea, it gives it direction.
